McCaul Statement on Senate Confirmation of Jeh Johnson

Dec 16, 2013 Issues: Oversight of DHS Management

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) released the following statement on the Senate’s confirmation of Jeh Johnson as the next Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.

Chairman McCaul: “As the fourth confirmed Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Mr. Johnson will face many challenges. Contrary to the Administration’s narrative, the threats to this country are not diminishing, but are in fact spreading and evolving. Securing our nation from the escalating threat of foreign and domestic terrorism, protecting our nation’s borders and stopping cyber attacks on our critical infrastructure – all while ensuring taxpayer dollars are not put to waste – requires qualified and dedicated leadership. Mr. Johnson must tackle the alarming number of vacancies in DHS’s top ranks, and I was pleased to hear that finally filling this leadership void will be one of his top priorities. I look forward to working with him to ensure DHS is up to the task of securing our nation, and is always one step ahead of those seeking to do this country harm.”
