McCaul Statement Regarding the Crisis in Iraq

Jun 13, 2014 Issues: Counterterrorism

Today, the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) released the following statement regarding the crisis in Iraq.

Chairman McCaul:  “This crisis demands immediate action and the President can’t make a decision. The deterioration of Iraq is a direct result of the President’s inability to negotiate a Status of Forces Agreement with the Iraqi Government. The Administration must now address this head on with our partners in the region to prevent terrorists from establishing another safe haven and to ensure America’s sacrifices there have not been in vain.

“The President called a press conference on the White House lawn today to say he is having his national security team ‘prepare a range of other options’ for him to review in the days ahead. This Administration is wringing its hands as Baghdad is about to fall. This is not leadership.”
