Preparedness for and Response to Terrorist Attacks and Natural Disasters
The Department of Homeland Security, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), plays a key role in advocating for individuals and communities being prepared for a terrorist attack or natural disaster. It is vital that individuals and families have an emergency plan in place and an emergency kit ready to go. The DHS Ready Initiative provides valuable information on ways to prepare for a terrorist attack or natural disaster.
Since its inception, the Committee on Homeland Security has supported citizen and community preparedness and has worked to ensure that first responders have the resources they need in the event of a terrorist attack or natural disaster. The Committee continues to encourage collaboration at all levels of government through information sharing, planning, training, and exercising to ensure more effective and coordinated attack and disaster response.
